Candle Care
First Burn Matters
Burn for 2-3 hours minimum on the first light. This allows the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface and prevents tunneling (when the candle burns down the middle and wastes wax on the sides).
Soy wax has memory—the first burn sets the tone for every burn after.
Trim the Wick
Trim to ¼ inch before each burn. Use scissors, nail clippers, or a wick trimmer.
A trimmed wick = cleaner burn, less soot, longer candle life. An untrimmed wick can cause smoking, uneven burning, and a flame that's too large.
Burn Time
Don't burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Let the candle cool for at least 2 hours before relighting.
Burning too long can overheat the jar and cause the wick to "mushroom" (that black carbon buildup at the tip).
Keep It Clean
If you see any debris (wick trimmings, dust, matches) in the wax, remove it before lighting. A clean candle burns better.
Placement & Safety
- Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface
- Keep away from drafts, vents, fans, and open windows (they cause uneven burning and smoking)
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
- Don't burn candles near flammable materials
When to Stop Burning
Stop using your candle when ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom. Burning beyond this point can overheat the container and create a safety hazard.
(But hey, the jar is reusable—clean it out and repurpose it.)
Soy Wax Is Different
Soy wax is natural, so it can look a little different than paraffin candles:
- Frosting (a white, crystalized layer on the surface) is normal and doesn't affect burn quality
- Slight discoloration can happen over time—it's just the natural oils
- Softer texture means soy wax is more delicate in extreme heat—store in a cool, dry place
None of these affect performance. Your candle still burns clean and smells amazing.
The TL;DR
✔ First burn: 2-3 hours
✔ Trim wick to ¼ inch before every burn
✔ Burn no more than 4 hours at a time
✔ Stop when ½ inch of wax remains
✔ Keep it clean, keep it safe, keep it away from drafts
That's it. Light it. Enjoy it. Repeat.
